Can we work effectively as a team online?

Most of us think the time we spend in the office is highly productive. According to Inc Magazine, studies in fact suggest that the average worker is only productive for 2 hours and 53 minutes per day!  If  we manage our time working remotely wisely, is it possible that we may get more done?  We may even discover that building a high performance remote team has its advantages.

So...we know we can work from home. The question is, can we work effectively as a team online?

The biggest obstacle for remote teams is effective and inclusive online teamwork.

Although there are benefits, working remotely has its challenges.  The main issue comes down to a change in the way we communicate due to not being physically together in an office. Team members can easily feel disconnected and demotivated when they are spread out, and for this reason attention must be given to how teams communicate and collaborate with each other online.

By using a wide variety of apps and tools, we can still have those daily coffee chats and strategic conference calls to communicate.  But is this enough for teams to collaborate in a meaningful way?

The basic premise is for team members to get to know each other better, and continue to connect despite being apart.

When people know each other they recognize common ground which leads to a greater desire not to let their teammates down.

With teams working remotely, there is a need to break away from the schedules and deadlines and create a space to reconnect with each other - online of course!
